The University of Eastern Finland Scholarship is a perfect option to help finance your education. It is available to students enrolling in their first year of studies at the University of Eastern Finland, worth up to 15000 Euros per recipient; it is also renewable for up to three years. The scholarship is also known as the Suomi stipend and is awarded to two students with the highest points in their master’s Degree program.  It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Culture and is awarded to students in the first year of their master’s studies. It is also for students that were liable to pay tuition but got accepted into the University because of their high-performance scores. 

The University of Eastern Finland Scholarship is offered during student admission, and the eligible student gets notified through an admission offer letter. This scholarship is primarily given to students with excellent academic achievements.

The University of Eastern Finland is a comprehensive university located in Joensuu, North Karelia. It was established in 2010 when the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio were merged.   • There’s also the 100% first-year tuition fee which will be between the value of 8000-10,000 Euros
  • 80% waiver to the accepted students that are not required to pay any tuition fees
  • All the students that were expected to pay fees but are accepted by the university will be granted a 70% tuition fee waiver.
  • But for IMPIT Students that were got admission in 2021, there will be no living cost allowance for

Eligibility Criteria

The University of Eastern Finland Scholarship is for international students, including the Non-EU AND EEA countries. So the students must be from non-European union or non-European Economic Area citizens. The prospective students were liable to pay their tuition fees. The prospective student applied for Master –level studies, and the academic section will start on August 1st. 

Other criteria for University of Eastern Finland Scholarships include

  • The student awarded the University of Eastern Finland Scholarship must have a Finnish bank account. The bank account will be used to receive the 5000 Euros for the scholarship at least by October.
  • The prospective scholarship student must study on the university campus. This is because the scholarship does not accommodate distance learning. The only snag is if the program is mandated for distance studies based on a forced Majeure situation.
  • Again, if any student is exempted from payment of tuition fees, such a student is not eligible for the University of Eastern Finland Scholarship.
  • A scholarship awardee or student can still start the studies in the following academic year with the same conditions. This is for students that did defer their studies for cogent reasons.
  • University of Eastern Finland Scholarship is not for special agreement programs or UEF’s Erasmus Mundus.

Fees & Funding

What is the duration for the University of Eastern Finland Scholarship award?

The scholarship will be granted up till 2024. So this means that students that apply for Mater’s studies in 2025 will not be granted scholarships.

Can a student apply for the University of Eastern Finland Scholarship and a tuition waiver?

Yes, prospective students should apply for the two at the same time, this is in case you can not get the Finland scholarship, the university should grant you a tuition waiver. So the two can be applied for on the study info application form.

How many applicants are eligible for the University of Eastern Finland Scholarship?

Only two applicants are eligible for the scholarship, and it is for each master’s degree program. It should be noted that the selection is only on merit.

What are the conditions to be met for the University of Eastern Finland Scholarship?

  • Applicant must have three years bachelor’s degree from a recognized international university.
  • Applicant must be proficient in the use of the English language
  • Must possess transcripts of records, if the student is yet to be graduated from college
