Turku Institute for Advanced Studies Scholarships: Guide

Turku Institute for Advanced Studies Scholarships is available to researchers from all disciplines. The scholarships are awarded for a period of one year and are worth โ‚ฌ15,000. The aim of the scholarships is to support the career development of early-stage researchers by providing them with the opportunity to focus on their research and complete their doctoral studies.

To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral programme at a university or research institute in Finland. They must also have completed at least one year of full-time research by the time the scholarship period begins.

The EDUFI Fellowship is intended, particularly, for providing initial funding to carry out research for a doctoral thesis in Finland.

Doctoral students or young researchers from outside Finland studying in a Finnish University department can get initial funding for completing a doctoral research project in Finland, completion of a double degree, or a study visit for exceptionally compelling reasons. The fellowship duration is 3โ€“12 months, visits 3โ€“6 months and 1,500 euros/month (2021) will be awarded to the successful candidate.

Scholarship Benefits

The fellows are unable to apply for the EDUFI Fellowship by themselves, as the award is granted solely to Finnish collegiate departments. The university will pay the EDUFI Fellowship to the fellow as a personal award. The university will invoice for the EDUFI Fellowship as a lump-sum payment as soon as the beneficiary’s arrival in Finland has been confirmed but no later than the scholar’s arrival.

The grant can be split over several periods. The grant is intended to cover the living costs of the fellow in Finland. We will not pay separate accommodation costs or contribute to travel, visa, residence permit or insurance costs.
