About Staples Internship Program

Staples Internship Program is an 11-week (June – August) summer internship program for undergraduates and recent graduates. It allows students to engage in practical work to increase their employability in various fields. During the program, interns will work on real projects with their teams and contribute directly to their team’s goals and objectives. It is also open to rising juniors and seniors.

Open positions

The following positions are available at Staples each summer for interested students. Whether you seek a summer internship, co-op, or an entry-level role, there is an opportunity for you to develop the technical and soft skills you need to thrive in the future. 

Supply Chain Intern

As a Supply Chain Intern, you will perform the following duties. They include:

  1. Analysis of improving department processes and procedures
  2. Development and achievement of performance goals and objectives
  3. Development of leadership and human relations skills
  4. Communication and teamwork among staff
  5. Understanding and use of facility and company systems
  6. Knowledge and control of department functions and procedures
  7. Representing Staples and the facility in a positive, professional manner
  8. Be the owner/driver of your learnings: job skills, processes, procedures, and relevant job knowledge
  9. Support the facility
  10. Be trained in and use: pallet jack, TCM, knife, scanner, computer, calculator, printer, two-way radio, load bar, and stretch wrap.

What you bring to the table

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including listening, follow-up, and coaching
  • A sense of urgency is required to work in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to use a computer, including essential Word and Excel
  • Flexibility to work any shift schedule to complete training
  • Initiative to work with minimal or no instruction and direction
  • Positive associate relations skills; ability to direct, coach, support, delegate, and maintain morale
  • Demonstrated responsibility, maturity, and leadership ability
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving ability

Physical Working Conditions

  • Work in a hot environment of approximately 110 degrees F, loading trailers during the summer.
  • Work in a cold climate of roughly 10 degrees F, loading trailers during the winter.

Basic Qualifications

  • Applicants must pursue a Bachelor’s degree in a related field as a 2nd or 3rd-year student.

Pricing Intern (Quill – Hybrid)

Pricing interns must be:

What will you be doing

  • Design and build a database with competitor matches for custom print items
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and redesign the existing pricing database and model used for custom print pricing analysis.
  • Improve competitor match rates by collaborating with the merchandising team to identify missing comps for Quill’s top-selling items.

Basic Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Data Analytics
  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and knowledge of MS Access and Alteryx/SQL preferred
  • Ability to gather, organize and analyze complex information, to accurately define problems and propose solutions
  • You must have the ability to multi-task and be flexible to new initiatives
  • Strong Excel skills: pivot table, v-lookups, etc.
  • Alteryx or SQL skills

Site Reliability Engineering Intern

You must be:

What you’ll be doing

  • You will work with an E-commerce Engineering and Platform Engineering team to support and maintain production systems with clients.
  • Maintain a deep knowledge of working with automation, observability tools, data-driven analytics, and visualization tools.
  • You will collaborate with cross-functional team members in Triaging, troubleshooting, and coordinating the resolution of complex technical issues.

Basic Qualifications

  • You must pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Maintain Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Have Strong Excel skills like the ability to use a pivot table to present data

Merchandising Intern Summer (Quill – Hybrid)

As a Merchandising Intern at the Staples Internship Program, your duties include the following:

  1. Comparison shopping across top competitor sites and trending ideas across social media platforms to determine product line expansions for Quill.com
  2. Utilize our third-party market engine, NPD, to find opportunities for assortment additions or opportunities within our current categories.
  3. Research potential business services within the realm of small and medium-sized businesses to understand potential strategic partnerships for Quill.com
  4. Develop and recommend suggestions across merchandising team, working with cross-functional teams and presenting findings to various groups.
  5. Exposure to additional topics such as product expansion, product rationalization, and onboarding services

  • Identifying and understanding internal or external customer needs and interests and profer solutions.

Basic Qualifications

  • You must be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree and enrolled as a full-time student carrying a minimum of 12 college credits. Working toward a business or merchandising degree preferred

Staples Promotional Products Sales Enablement Intern

During the Staples Internship Program, promotional product sales establishment interns must be:

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborate with Staples’s Sales, Marketing, and Cross-Functional Teams to identify critical business trends.
  • Conduct Research & leverage data and analytics to help build awareness and formulate a strategy.
  • Develop & prioritize the creation of collateral & selling tools that focus on growth areas, including Hybrid Work, Employee Mental Health, Sustainability, and Employee Engagement.
  • Creation of presentations to drive customer engagement & related selling propositions across all growth-size customers
  • The drive continued education & training to the sales team on available tools.
  • Deliver enhanced sales and margin to overall business
  • Measure and analyze ROI with user feedback to find ways to drive continued improvement
  • Develop expertise in selling

Basic Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree (Business Administration, Marketing, Management, Merchandising, Communication)
  • You will be enrolled as a full-time student carrying a minimum of 12 college credits.
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Team) skills
