Opportunities for Study and Scholarships La Trobe University

Below are the different funding opportunities available at Kettering University.

1. Destination Australia Scholarship Program

  • Open to: Full-time international undergraduate and postgraduate students 
  • Value of Scholarship: $15,000
  • Duration of Scholarship: Three years for undergraduates, Two years for postgraduates

The Destination Australia program encourages new overseas students to enrol in remote Australian universities and provides them with a top-notch educational opportunity. These scholarships have a maximum value of A$15,000 per year for up to four years for qualified applicants.

This payment for the award occurs in two instalments of $7,500 each following the census dates for the first and second semesters.  The Destination Australia program aims to draw in and assist International students who want to study in regional Australia. 

2. Early Bird Acceptance Grant.

  • Open to: International undergraduate or postgraduate students
  • Value of Scholarship: 5% of the First year Tuition fees
  • Duration of Scholarship: One year 

International students who apply early for admission into undergraduate or graduate programs at La Trobe University may be eligible for a bonus grant. The Early Bird Acceptance Grant, equal to 5% of the first-year tuition, will be immediately awarded to recipients if they complete the admissions procedure early. 

3. Region-specific International Scholarships

  • Open to: International undergraduate and postgraduate students 
  • Value of Scholarship: Up to 30% reduction in course fees
  • Duration of Scholarship: Throughout the registered program 

La Trobe University grants high-achieving international students with region-specific scholarships. This scholarship is for international students applying for an undergraduate or postgraduate program. 

It awards a 20%–30% yearly tuition fee reduction for the duration of the program.

Once the student accepts the offer, makes the requisite deposit stated on the offer letter, and enrols in their course, the scholarship will appear on their account statement after the census date.

4. ELICOS Scholarship

  • Open to: Domestic and international undergraduates and postgraduates 
  • Value of Scholarship: Percentage deduction on ELICOS tuition fees
  • Duration of Scholarship: duration of academic study 

The ELICOS scholarship is a financial aid stipend available to potential overseas students enrolling in La Trobe College Australia’s English for Further Studies (ELICOS) program (LTCA) before continuing to La Trobe University for an undergraduate or graduate degree.

5. Dennis McDermott Research scholarships

  • Open to: Graduate researchers, PhD candidates, Graduate researchers, Australian Citizens, Permanent Resident
  • Value of Scholarship: $43,500 per annum
  • Duration of Scholarship: Three years

This scholarship is a special top-up scholarship worth $10,000 annually granted in addition to a Research Training Program Scholarship with a $32,500 annual stipend.

The Dennis McDermott Research scholarships, which come with an additional top-up stipend and research support allowance on top of a standard Research Training Program scholarship, are given to Indigenous students with exceptional research promise to pursue a graduate research degree at La Trobe University. To apply, you must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

The top-ranked applicants of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent may be given up to three (3) scholarships to pursue a PhD degree or a master’s by research at La Trobe. The scholarship comes with a Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship that offers an RTP Stipend, an RTP Offset to pay for tuition, and an RTP Allowance.

6. Flexible Research Scholarships

  • Open to: Graduate researchers, Future PhD candidates, Graduate researchers, Australian Citizens, International Students, New Zealand Citizens, Permanent Resident
  • Value of Scholarship: $33500
  • Duration of Scholarship: Three and half years

Those who meet the requirements can apply for flexible research scholarships. These scholarships will offer individually tailored assistance, allowing for lengthier leave of absence, payment of stipends over longer periods, and access to supplementary money for expenditures associated with researching while living with a disability.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must not be from Australia or New Zealand to qualify.
  • An international student beginning their first year of school at the institution for an undergraduate or graduate degree
  • Applicant should enrol full-time at La Trobe University campus.
  • Have admissions send a letter of offer.
  • Student must accept their offer by paying the required deposit before the acceptance date specified in their offer letter.
  • Must demonstrate their financial necessity.
  • Provide a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Fees & Funding

Where is the scholarship stipend paid?

The scholarship stipend is paid directly to the scholar’s bank account using Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). However, the payment comes after the university scholarship unit has certified your eligibility. 

Are there any scholarships available from the university for online study?

Yes, students studying online when they are away from home and unable to go to Australia are eligible for the La Trobe University Offshore Online Bursary (OOB).
