Jam Music Lab University Scholarships: Application Guide

JAM Music Lab will award 3250 Euros per semester, to international students who qualify for the total tuition award. The scholarships will run for one academic session, and current beneficiaries have the potential to reapply for the scholarships for one more semester if they continue to satisfy eligibility requirements.

JAM Music Lab Scholarships are sponsored by JAM Music Lab University. This private higher institution provides professional music training for students pursuing Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in specific areas of music instruction. 

About JAM Music Lab University

Since September 2017 when JAM Music Lab University opened its doors to its first set of students, it has continued to provide innovative teaching and research, without losing focus of the demands of the current music market. The result is that JAM Music Lab students are able to graduate as young artists who can comfortably fit into a competitive music market.

JAM Music Lab is the best of its kind for professional music education with a special focus on jazz and popular music. The private university was founded in 2011, first as a private music conservatory, and finally in 2017, as an accredited private university. JAM Music Lab Private University for Jazz and Popular Music became the first university in Austria to award Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music, Music Education, and Music Production. The university is located in Gasometer Music City, Vienna.

How much is the JAM Music Lab University Scholarships?

JAM Music Lab Scholarships are worth 3250 Euros per semester, for a duration of two semesters, with the possibility of a scholarship extension for one semester. This means that a beneficiary of the scholarship has the opportunity of applying for a scholarship extension after the scholarship period of one academic session. 

How many students are the JAM Music Lab University Scholarships meant for?

The JAM Music Lab Scholarships are meant for up to 10 students, in each academic session. However, the number may be more or less, depending on the resources available for grants and scholarships.

The scholarships are for international students pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in any of the following fields: Music, and Music Education



Eligibility Criteria

There are three main criteria for awarding JAM Music Lab University Scholarships. Please note that a demonstrated financial need is not a criterion for eligibility, except in exceptional cases.

  • Applicants are required to have scored 85 to 100 points in the audition to be admitted to JAM.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English.
  • Applicants must have been accepted into the applied program by JAM Music Lab University.

Fees & Funding

How are JAM Music Lab scholarships awarded?

The scholarships are channeled towards the tuition fee for the next two semesters after application. Cash is not given. 

Is it possible to have two scholarships running concurrently at JAM Music Lab?

Yes, two scholarships are possible if the terms of the other scholarship permit, and if the scholarship board managing JAM Music Lab scholarships is informed and approves.

Am I eligible for a JAM Music Lab Scholarship extension?

Here are the requirements for a JAM Music Lab Scholarship extension

  • Must be a current recipient of a JAM Music Lab Scholarship
  • Have an average grade of at least 1.5 in the Principal Instrument (ZF, Module 1)
  • Have an average grade of at least 2 in all other courses 
  • Applicant must have the required minimum number of ECTS credits 

Note that the duration of the scholarship is one semester

Are the JAM Music Lab Scholarships full or partial funding?

The scholarships are full-tuition scholarships valued at 3250 Euros. 

Are international students eligible for the JAM Music Lab Scholarships?

Yes, JAM Music Lab scholarships are for international students who meet the required eligibility criteria.


Application Procedure

Application closes on October 15.  Applicants must submit the following in a single PDF format:

  • A letter of motivation of at least 3000 characters, specifying the applicant’s artistic work and artistic personal development. 
  • A written statement of at least 1.500 characters indicating the applicant’s financial situation
  • A recent video presentation of the applicant’s artistic performance (at least six months old).
