Istituto Europeo di Design, Italy Scholarships: How to apply & Value

The Istituto Europeo di Design Scholarships are available to international students who wish to enroll in undergraduate and graduate programs in design, fashion, the visual arts, communication, and management offered in Milan, Barcelona, Florence, Madrid, Rome, Turin, and Como. Students must be at least 18 years old and have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience to qualify for this scholarship, which will cover 50% of their tuition.

These scholarships aim to introduce highly creative individuals to the fashion and arts industries and place them in the best possible positions for career opportunities. Access to comprehensive training facilities, both academic and practical, is provided by the scholarship.

Italy established the private institution Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in 1966. The school has four disciplines: Design, Fashion, Visual Communication, and Management. Opportunities for Study and Scholarships at the Istituto Europeo di Design, Firenze

Below are the different funding opportunities available at the Istituto Europeo di Design, Firenze.

1. International Scholarship competition by the IED Istituto Europeo di Design

Young creatives are eligible to participate in the International Scholarship competition by the IED Istituto Europeo di Design, “Aldo Galli” Academy of Fine Arts, and Kunsthal CentroSuperior de Diseo SL.

There are 44 scholarships available, each covering 50% of the tuition for undergraduate and foundation courses in design, fashion, visual arts, communication, management, and restoration. This scholarship is available only to international students* in Milan, Barcelona, Florence, Madrid, Rome, Turin, Como, and Bilbao.

To apply for the Contest, participants should design research relevant to the specific undergraduate course of interest, following the parameters in the Brief.

By November 30th, 2022, students must register and upload the necessary materials to participate in the scholarship competition.

2. ED, Galli Academy, and Kunsthal scholarships

The ED, Galli Academy, and Kunsthal scholarships are accessible to undergraduate or foundational studies in Italy or Spain. About 44 scholarships totaling 50% of the chosen course’s cost are available. Winners of 50% scholarships are required to pay the enrollment fee and 50% of the tuition charge based on their income as certified by the ISEE (only for EU students applying for Undergraduate Courses taught in Italy).

If the student completes all of the exams in the annual study plan with an average score of 8 (undergraduate) or 55 (bachelor of arts) for courses taken in Spain or 28/30 for undergraduate courses taken in Italy, the scholarship is renewable.

Regardless of the course of study, scholarships will be given out based on the caliber of the project. Evaluation will only take place following the panel’s verdict. 

The Panel will evaluate projects with a score from 0 to 5, according to the following criteria:

  • problem-solving
  • relevance to the theme
  • originality of the idea
  • communication.

Candidates who got a minimum score of 12 will be contacted for an interview with a score (from 0 to 5), according to the following the criteria

  • Motivation
  • Sharpness of intellect and personal interests
  • Design aptitude.

After accepting the scholarship, the winner will have five days to complete the application process and enroll in the course for which the scholarship.

Scholarship Benefits

  • For this scholarship, which covers 50% of their tuition costs, the Istituto Europeo di Design will select 40 international students.


The scholarship does not cover meals or domestic or foreign travel. The winners are responsible for paying the enrollment fee, accommodation, and all other expenses.

Eligibility Criteria

The applicants must fulfill each of the requirements listed below to be eligible:

Applicants Must meet the minimum age requirement of 18 years 

  • To be eligible, applicants must have finished high school at the time of application.
  • Candidates applying for the first year of the academic year are the only ones who are permitted to participate.
  • Candidates must demonstrate their command of the course language 
  • Candidates must be in excellent physical and mental health.
  • At the time of registration at the university where they are accepted, applicants must additionally provide a medical certificate attesting to their fitness for study

What types of programs does IED provide?

IED provides fully approved undergraduate and graduate programs and private diploma programs at each of its campuses. Its programs also include foundation courses, continuing education courses, and summer, semester, and academic year courses, which may accommodate everyone’s demands.
