Opportunities for Study and Scholarships at Hiroshima University 

Below are the different funding opportunities available at Hiroshima University.

1. Student Exchange Support Program 

  • Worth of Scholarship: up to 80,000 JPY per year
  • Duration of Scholarship: Throughout the study
  • Number of Available Scholarships: Limited 
  • Eligible Course: Exchange program Courses 

Qualified international students can finance and finish their academic studies through the Student Exchange Support Program.  Students from all nations in a diplomatic relationship with Japan are eligible for this scholarship. Additionally, these students must exhibit financial difficulties. This scholarship is not available to students who receive more than 80,000 JPY in total per month from other scholarships to study in Japan.

2. Hiroshima University Pre-Enrollment Scholarship Program

  • Worth of Scholarship: up to 50,000 yen per month + tuition exemption
  • Duration of Scholarship: One year
  • Number of Available Scholarships: About four people
  • Eligible Course: All Courses 

Upon pre-enrollment, students who pass their entrance exam receive the Hiroshima University Pre-Enrollment Scholarship Program. Under the pre-arrival admissions system, the university will choose applicants who pass the entrance exam and award them.

3. Scholarships from private organizations

  • Worth of Scholarship: 20,000 yen to 200,000 yen per year 
  • Duration of Scholarship: Throughout the study
  • Number of Available Scholarships: About 250 scholarship openings
  • Eligible Course: Available University Courses 

For international students who are privately funding their education, about 40 organizations are accepting scholarship applications. These private organizations award scholarships to about 250 students each year. The application materials are available at each faculty/graduate school’s support office for those who wish to apply. 

4. Honjo International Scholarship Foundation

  • Worth of Scholarship: up to 150,000 yen per month (more than four years); 180,000 yen per month (up to 3 years); 200,000 yen per month (1 to 2 years).
  • Duration of Scholarship: up to four or more years reliant on the registered academic discipline 
  • Number of Available Scholarships: Limited 
  • Eligible Course: Any course of study 

International students can receive financial aid from the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation while attending graduate programs in Japan. You can apply for the Honjo International Scholarship if you successfully passed the entrance test, intend to earn a degree or are currently enrolled in a graduate program in Japan. All nationalities and academic specialities are welcome. 

5. Nitori International Scholarship Foundation 

  • Worth of Scholarship: up to 50,000 yen per month + additional learning incentive of up to 30,000 yen per month.
  • Duration of Scholarship: Throughout the study program
  • Number of Available Scholarships: up to 100
  • Eligible Course: All Courses 

Scholarships are given to Hiroshima University undergraduate and graduate students by the Nitori International Scholarship Foundation. It is a privately funded scholarship for attracting international students. The scholarship is available to people with excellent academic ability and steady morale but who find it challenging to finance their education.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students from all nations with which Japan has diplomatic ties.
  • Accepted students at Hiroshima University.
  • Those without the means to pay to study in Japan.
  • Students who qualify for a Student Visa.
  • Students who excel in their personal and academic lives.
  • Students who do not receive any other scholarships for study in Japan totalling more than 80,000 JPY per month.
  • The candidate is either enrolled full-time in a graduate program in Japan.
  • Students who have an undergraduate degree.

Fees & Funding

Are there scholarships up for application after the first year?

Yes, scholarships offered are to start in the second year. The value of the scholarship awarded is based on students’ academic records, financial situation, and minimum GPA.

How does the Integrated Global Studies curriculum support the natural sciences?

There are four professors of science at Integrated Global Studies. You must gradually progress from foundational to advanced courses if you want to major in science. 

Can you become a tour guide by majoring in culture and tourism?

No! You cannot receive tour guide training from IGS. You will research culture and tourism from a scholarly standpoint before consideration. 

What are the specific employment options for graduates?

There are numerous options available to graduates. Using the knowledge and abilities you acquired at IGS, you could, for instance, work for an international organization, become a skilled employee for a local or international company, or become a government official. Additionally, you have the option of going to graduate school.
