EIEF Scholarships: Funding, Benefits and Application

The EIEF Scholarships are intended for students who have shown academic achievement and a genuine desire to study in Europe.

EIEF funds research projects in economics and finance to promote high-quality and policy-relevant research in Italy. The EIEF awards scholarships based on academic merit, financial need, and a desire to study or work in Europe. Preference will be given to projects whose primary investigator is under the age of 40, whose research team does not include researchers who have received EIEF grants in the last 5 years, and who do not have additional sources of income, either for the proposed project or for related studies.

To apply for an EIEF scholarship, you must fill out and submit the EIEF Scholarship Application Form, along with your official transcripts to your university.

Who Sponsors the EIEF Scholarships?

The EIEF (Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance) is a private foundation that sponsors scholarships for students who are interested in pursuing a career in education finance and management. The foundation awards scholarships to students from all over the world, and they have currently awarded over $2.5 million in scholarships.  The EIEF scholarship program is designed to give talented students the opportunity to study education finance and management at one of the top universities in the world.

Overview of Italy and EIEF Scholarships

Italy is a beautiful country with a rich history. The EIEF Scholarships program provides students living in Italy the opportunity to study abroad and learn about different cultures. 

The program offers scholarships for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral studies. Student researchers can choose from a list of programs funded by EIEF. Award amounts vary depending on the course of study selected but all scholarships are highly competitive.

Scholarship Benefits

The EIEF Scholarships cover the full cost of tuition and living expenses at any accredited university in Europe.  EIEF Scholarship projects are highly competitive, and the selection process is rigorous. Winners must have excellent academic records, demonstrate strong leadership skills, and have plans to pursue a career in Economics or finance.

Each project will get up to EUR 10,000 in funding, which will be distributed in two equal payments of 50% each (unless agreed upon differently before the signing of the contract). When the project is finished and submitted to the EIEF Grants Committee, the remaining 50% of the grant is paid. 50% of the money is paid upon approval.

How Many Students Receive the EIEF Scholarships?

Student researchers who have excelled in the field of economic research are given EIEF scholarships. Each year, just 4 scholarships are given out. 4 projects will be chosen for funding by a committee selected by the EIEF, though this number may change based on the quality and quantity of submissions received. The project’s quality and the proponent team’s assessment of its feasibility serve as the primary selection criteria.

What is the duration of the EIEF Scholarships?

The EIEF Scholarships are awarded for a period of one year.

Applicable Courses

EIEF Scholarships are accessible to students and researchers with extensive experience in the field. Undergraduate and graduate-level courses in economics, management, and finance are eligible. The scholarships/fellowships were designated to a team of Principal Investigators and are available to students from all over the world. They can be used at any accredited university, including the University of Liverpool, Università di Napoli Federico II, Università di Roma “Tor Vergata”, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Milano, and Sapienza Università di Roma.


Eligibility Criteria

You must meet the following requirements to be eligible for this scholarship:

  • Visitors are offered competitive fellowships that vary depending on their qualifications and availability to teach.

English Language Entry requirements:

  • Applicants whose first language is not English are typically required to demonstrate English proficiency at the higher level required by the University.

Projects can be in any sector of economics and finance as long as they meet the following criteria:

  • highly innovative and capable of furthering our understanding of economic behavior, systems, or policies;
  • capable of producing at least one paper publishable in a top academic journal;
  • carried out by an individual researcher based in an Italian institution or a team of researchers whose principal investigator meets the same criterion.

Each proposal must include:

  • a clear motivation and description of the research question and strategy;
  • a timeline for the project;
  • a financial plan that clearly identifies the financial needs;
  • task allocation among participants (if more than one);
  • a brief CV of each participant in the project, including information on all research funds currently available to all members of the research team (specifying the projects for which the funds have been granted).
