BYU Scholarships – Application, Funding and Eligibility

Every student at Brigham Young University can apply for BYU scholarships, provided they meet the minimum requirements for these scholarships. In addition, prospective students can also receive grants to study at the university. However, they will not receive their awards until they get admission to BYU. Eligible candidates for any scholarship will apply online through the Financial Aid Office, irrespective of their circumstances. 

Applicants for any scholarship must apply before the deadline, even if they have not gained admission to the university. However, they will get a notification about their scholarship application once they enroll at the university.

These scholarships offer students grants to cater to their financial needs, including tuition fees, accommodation, library, and other expenses. They are available to undergraduate students in any course at BYU. However, postgraduate students can contact their departments for scholarships. These scholarships are open to students from all nationalities who enroll at Brigham Young University.

1. New Freshman Scholarships

There are several scholarships available to prospective students at BYU. Applicants for these scholarships must demonstrate financial needs. Eligible candidates must apply before the deadline, irrespective of their admission status. The awards under these scholarships include:

  • Russell M. Nelson Scholarship
  • National Merit Scholarship
  • Sterling Scholarship Competition

2. International Student Scholarships

International students can qualify for scholarships at Brigham Young University if they:

  • submit their applications before December 15 for the spring term, summer term, or fall semester
  • apply before August 1 for the  winter semester
  • apply before February 1 if they are continuing students

3. Former and Continuing Student Scholarships

Former students of BYU who have completed at least 12.0 credits of regular BYU coursework at the university will qualify for these scholarships. Moreover, they must submit their applications before the deadline for these scholarships. Plus, they must meet the score before they apply. However, the average score can change each year. 

4. BYU College/Department Scholarships

Each department at Brigham Young University has many scholarships for its students, including postgraduate students. These scholarships [s have different deadlines. So applicants must contact their departments to know the best time to apply for departmental grants.

The general requirements for any scholarship at Brigham Young University include the following:

  1. You must enroll in an undergraduate program at Brigham Young University.
  2. Postgraduate students will only qualify for departmental scholarships
  3. Applicants must be members of the Letter Day Saints church
  4. You must complete at least 12.0 to qualify 
  5. You will need a minimum of 3.60 BYU grade points to qualify
