Eligible candidates will work in a scholarly environment where they can complete their publication projects. Applicants must be holders of a Ph.D. degree in Japanese Culture. However, Early Career Researchers who have received their PhDs within eight years or equivalent professional training will have more chances. In addition, individuals within six years of their first appointment can also apply. Successful applicants will get a fund of £24,000 for one year.

Sainsbury Institute Studentship in Japanese Art History is available to outstanding MA students in interdisciplinary Japanese Studies at the University of East Anglia. However, it specializes in Japanese art history. Successful applicants for this scholarship will get complete domestic fees as their reward.
