The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation was founded by the German government. It promotes educational collaboration between Germany and other countries by sponsoring students from around the world to continue their research in Germany. The foundation offers over 700 fellowships and awards to foreigners across different fields of academics for post-doctorate and experience research. It allows these researchers to visit Germany for any research project they choose with a host and partner in Germany.

#1. Humboldt Research Fellowship

It is for post-doctorate and experienced researchers who want to continue their reach in a german institute. It allows them to carry out further inquiries in any field of study in Germany. It is available to all foreigners except Brazilians. The amount for this scholarship depends on your level of education. For instance, post-doctorate researchers will receive €2,670 for six to twenty-four months, while experienced researchers will get €3,170 for six to eighteen months. 

#2. Humboldt Research Award

It allows researchers in all fields who are outstanding to engage in further research with their counterparts in Germany. There is no application process for this award. However, only established researchers in Germany nominate eligible candidates for the awards. And they will get a fund of up to 60,000 euros to carry out research in any field of their choice. The duration of their stay in Germany can be up to 12 months. 

#3. Georg Forster Research Award

Experienced researchers from developing countries can qualify for this award. However, they do not need to apply. Established researchers in Germany will nominate candidates based on their expertise in research. The nominees will receive a grant of 60,000 euros to carry out research in any field of their choice in Germany in collaboration with other experts for up to 12 months. In addition, researchers may get 25,000 euros for participating in conferences, materials and equipment.

#4. Capes-Humboldt Research Fellowships for Postdoctoral Researchers

It is for Brazilian researchers who want to engage in research in any postdoctoral field in Germany. They can stay in Germany for up to two years for research-related purposes in any Germann institution.

Is there a deadline to apply for this scholarship?

There is no deadline for applying for an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Scholarship. However, applicants must know that the selection committee sits three times a year in March, July and November. Therefore, you must submit your application four months before the selection meeting.

Should I undergo a language course?

There is no need to enrol in a German language course. However, you can learn the Germann Language during your stay in the country. It will help you to participate in any cultural event during your time in Germany.
